Why is a hand wash better?

One of my good customers told me it dosen't matter if you get you car hand washed or drive through a machine wash!
well there is a huge difference, first a machine wash or touchless wash will quickly remove the wax protection from your cars paint finish. The chemicals that are used to dissolve the dirt on your car, will also remove the wax which is used to protect your paint.  A hand wash is more gentle, the soap in a hand wash is not as harsh to the finish; a  wool wash mit and your hand can gently apply pressure to remove stubborn dirt. Washes that have brushes are the most damaging to your paint, especially a black car or darker color. The brushes rub against the paint and make small scratches in the finish. Cars that are black are the most difficult to maintain, for example if you were to take your finger nail and very gently move across the paint on a black car you would leave a small mark!

If you must use a machine wash go with a touchless car wash; know that it will remove the wax from your paint and you will need to reapply wax later; I am in no way knocking machine washes my guess most who use them don't really care; they just want their car cleaned and the road salt off, however if you have a special car I don't suggest you use a macine wash.

What is detailing???? Humm....

Many of my customers have no Idea what detailing is, Most people think they have a pretty good idea, but for the most part many don't really understand what it is!

Detailing is the systematic, cleaning, washing, waxing, polishing of every surface of the vehicle.  Sounds simple, right? It is very time consuming and tedious work and that my friends is the truth.

For example when the car has been washed and all the dirt has been removed, if needed the paint should be clayed to remove contamination, that gritty, rough feeling you get when moving your hand across the painted surface. The next step clean everything, I mean everything!! clean inside the wheels, the grill, open doors and clean around and under, clean the weather stripping and apply dressing, open trunk and hood and wipe around these areas, everything which is visible by the human eye should be cleaned to remove dirt; if necessary repaint areas like the frame or undercarrage if it's showing rust.

The interior requires the cleaning of every surface and can take several hours for vehicles that have been neglected, dirt can hide and get trapped in the most difficult areas!!!

Next we polish and wax the exterior; the polish will give a nice gloss and remove minor scratches while the wax will provide protection.

I recommend that if your car is a daily driver then you should have it at least waxed (3 - 4 times yearly; becasue wax only last 30 - 90 days, ), next if necessary have it polished; this will maintain the cars paint and it will look very good!! this type of detail can take from 4 hours up to 9  hours depending on what needs to be done and the condition of the car.

80% of my customers fall into this category above; their cars are driven daily and in need of routine maintenance.

The next type of detail is more time consuming and is often referred to as paint correction, it involves several steps and can take several hours or even days. this service is for car owners who don't drive through automatic car washes and actually clean their own car; when a customers car recieves  this level of detail, it's is critical to maintain the finish by routine care I.E. spray waxing, washing and drying properly etc...

Ok, thats it for this week next week I will have some more interesting stories and how to articles, remember your car is an investment and if treated well, will return many many years of enjoyment!
